We all wish we could have more time with the pets we love. When their quality of life begins to change, it can be difficult to know when it’s time to say goodbye. You don’t have to make that decision alone. Our team is here to provide medical guidance, answer your questions, listen to your concerns, and, most importantly, support you and your pet.

We’re here to help

One of the most important things we can do for our patients and their families is help provide clarity during an emotional time. Your Firehouse veterinarian can talk with you about your pet’s diagnosis, prognosis, pain or symptom management, and quality of life. We can help you understand what changes to watch for and what options may be available.

Sometimes that means exploring additional treatment or supportive care.

Sometimes it means adjusting medications to keep your pet comfortable.

And sometimes, the kindest decision is to let them go peacefully.

There is no “right” timeline, and there is no perfect decision. Our role is not to tell you what you should do. Our role is to give you the information and medical perspective you need to make an informed decision for your pet.

Assessing your pet’s quality of life

Our team is here to support you and your pet through every stage of their life, and we are happy to discuss your pet’s quality of life at any time.

To help you evaluate your pet’s comfort and guide conversations about the next steps, our veterinarians will ask questions about your pet’s mobility, pain levels, and daily happiness. If your pet still has a meaningful quality of life, we can help you create a plan to keep them comfortable for as long as possible. When that is no longer the case, or when the bad days outnumber the good, we can discuss what comes next.

End-of-life decisions are deeply personal

Whatever your beliefs, we’re here to listen without judgment, help you understand your pet’s changing needs, and create a plan centered on comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

What happens when you choose euthanasia?

For many pet owners, one of the hardest parts is simply not knowing what to expect.

Our team will walk you through the process before anything happens. We’ll explain what to expect, answer your questions, and give you time to say goodbye.

The goal is to provide your pet with a peaceful, comfortable passing while giving you the space and support you need.

You may want to bring a favorite blanket, toy, or special treat. Some families choose to spend a few quiet moments with their pet beforehand. Others want the experience to be simple and peaceful. There is no right or wrong way to say goodbye.

We know that facing the end of your pet’s life can be overwhelming, and we are here to walk alongside you during this difficult time. If you have any questions about your pet’s quality of life or about euthanasia, contact our team. We’re here to help.
